Another COBRA Subsidy Extension

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 - Morgan R. Cadwalader
The COBRA subsidy deadline has been extended for qualifying individuals, those workers who are involuntarily terminated in March 2010. President Barack Obama signed the legislation into law, the Temporary Extension Act of 2010 (H. R. 4691), on March 2, 2010. The new legislation extends this subsidy deadline for employees that are involuntary terminated beginning on September 1, 2008 and ending on March 31, 2010. These individuals may receive up to 15 months of COBRA subsidies (65% of the cost of COBRA). You can see the legislation by clicking here.

COBRA Subsidy Extension, Extended Again

Thursday, February 04, 2010 - Morgan R. Cadwalader
The COBRA Subsidy Extension of last year has been extended for an additional period of time for certain assistance eligible individuals. Please check out this link to the U.S. Department of Labor’s website explaining the extension. There is a great video recording of Assistant Secretary Phyllis Borzi explaining the COBRA Premium Reductions and how to get help.

Group Medical, Dental, and Vision Dependent Coverage Changes

Wednesday, May 27, 2009 - Morgan R. Cadwalader
Effective June 1, 2009, all individual and group health insurance policies must extend the dependent coverage for qualifying dependents until age 26 or age 30 for military veteran dependents. This is irregardless of full-time student status. Dependents must still meet qualifying standards set in each policy.

An initial 90-day enrollment period is required. The initial enrollment period starts on June 1, 2009. However, if your policy renews or is issued on a date after June 1, 2009, your initial enrollment period will begin on that renewal or issuance date (e.g., if your renewal date is February 1, 2010, your initial enrollment period will begin on February 1, 2010.)

For more specific information, please see Illinois Insurance Facts on the Dependent Coverage HERE.
